MINNEAPOLIS — A new PC video game features managing a Dairy Queen as its premise. The game DQ Tycoon was inspired by a 2002 incident in which NBA Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that NBA manager of officials Ed Rush "might have been a great ref, but I wouldn't hire him to run a Dairy Queen." After Dairy Queen took offense, Cuban accepted the challenge to run a Dairy Queen store for a day.
The game tests a player's store management skills, in which players will:
- Create Blizzard flavor treats
- Serve Dilly Bars
- Decorate DQ Cakes
- Manage the operation of up to four DQ stores
- Upgrade machines
- Manage staff
- Keep the business running smoothly
DQ Tycoon was created by Minneapolis-based GameMill Entertainment and Spark Plug Games in close partnership with American Dairy Queen Corp. The game retails for $19.99 in Target stores and is available for purchase online through Big Fish Games. In January, the game will be included in the Scholastic Inc. catalog, which is distributed nationally to schools.
