LOS ANGELES -- Command Packaging, a manufacturer of plastic carry bags for retail stores and restaurants, has announced it has been officially licensed by the California State Department of Conservation as an approved plastic film and bag recycling center.
Command Packaging Recycling Center launched last year and has been collecting plastic waste from local businesses in an effort to divert plastic waste away from local area landfills into a sustainable packaging solution.
After reprocessing the collected plastic waste, the recycled plastic is used as the raw material for Command Packaging's Encore environmental carryout bag line. Encore environmental bags are made from 100 percent recycled plastic and can be recycled at their end of life.
The New York Times reports that a number of communities, including New York City, have assessed or are considering charging fees for plastic bags used at retail and restaurant registers to encourage the use of cloth bags. In some areas, recycling bins for plastic bags are required at supermarkets. (Registration may be required.)
