NEW YORK — In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the New York Tri-State Area McDonald's "Check it Out" Reading Program, a Manhattan McDonald's will hold a special reading event Aug. 28, 2008.
Television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck will join Ronald McDonald to read her favorite storybook to a group of children at the McDonald's restaurant located at 427 10th Ave. in Manhattan at 1:30 p.m.
McDonald's "Check It Out" Reading Program gives children from kindergarten through fourth grade incentives to read during the summer. It also serves to help kids get school-ready by getting a jump start on their reading. "Check It Out" rewards local children with a free Happy Meal for reading five books during the summer months. Kids can supplement fries and soda for Apple Dippers and 1 percent low-fat milk.
The "McDonald's Check It Out" Reading Program was created in 1998 to encourage reading, education and imagination. Since the program's inception, the program has promoted summer reading for more than 1 million children in the New York Tri-State Area.
