Cheesecake recipe wins Krispy Kreme contest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. and Taste of the South magazine have announced the winner of The Ultimate Krispy Kreme Recipe Contest.

Stephanie Matthews, from Tempe, Ariz., was named the grand-prize winner with her recipe for Extreme Pumpkin Cheesecake, a pumpkin-flavored cheesecake made with Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Twists and Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnuts.

More than 1,700 recipes for items such as cheesecake, ice cream, cobbler and bread were submitted, according to a news release. The top 10 recipes were created and sampled by an executive judging panel.

Matthews's recipe for Extreme Pumpkin Cheesecake won her the grand-prize package which included Lodge cookware, a Viking mixer and Krispy Kreme gift cards — valued at $1,700. More information on the contest, winners and the top 10 recipes will be featured in the March 2008 issue of Taste of the South magazine.
