OAK BROOK, Ill. — Ronald McDonald House Charities hosted its 23rd annual Awards of Excellence celebration Oct. 27, 2007, in Rosemont, Ill., by presenting three awards.
Award-winners were:
- Marlo Thomas — actress, producer, social activist and national outreach director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, honored with the RMHC Award of Excellence for her commitment to raising money for the hospital founded by her father, Danny Thomas, in 1962.
- Dr. Mark W. Kline, professor of pediatrics and chief of Retrovirology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, honored with the RMHC Medical Award of Excellence for his contributions in the areas of pediatric HIV/AIDS.
- Wayne and Dorothy Stingley, McDonald's owner/operators and dedicated philanthropists, honored with the Gerry Newman McTLC Award of Excellence for their legacy of philanthropy through their support of RMHC and many other local and national organizations including Andre House, Teach for America, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer Project and UNICEF.
Thomas and Kline were each awarded a $100,000 grant to donate to a charity of their choice; and the Stingleys received a $50,000 grant for their favorite children's charity.
