Hardee's refranchises restaurants in Iowa, Nebraska

CARPINTERIA, Calif. — CKE Restaurants Inc., parent company of the Hardee's and Carl's Jr. brands, is selling 18 restaurants in its Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, markets to new franchisee Westar Foods.

Westar Foods also has committed to build five new Hardee's restaurant locations in these markets over the next six years.

The sale is part of an ongoing refranchising program that was originally launched in April 2007. The initiative is expected to involve approximately 200 Hardee's restaurants in a number of markets across the Midwest and Southeast.

To date, the company has sold 46 restaurants to franchisees and secured commitments for 30 new franchise restaurants under development agreements for those markets.
