LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Net income for Yum Brands Inc., which operates the Pizza Hut, Long John Silver's, KFC, Taco Bell and A&W Restaurants brands, rose to $232 million in the company's fourth quarter ended Dec. 30, up 3 percent from a net income of $226 million for the same period last year.
Revenues for the quarter were up 4 percent to $3 billion, led by a 29 percent growth in sales for the company's restaurants in mainland China.
For the year, Yum's net income rose 8 percent to $824 million, up from $762 million in 2005. Revenues for the year rose 2 percent to $9.6 billion.
Worldwide, same-store sales for locations open at least a year grew by 3 percent for the year, while U.S. comps fell by 2 percent. The company attributed the drop in U.S. comps to a 5 percent decrease in sales at the company's Taco Bell subsidiary.
An E. coli outbreak that hit the chain in December was attributed to tainted lettuce used at restaurants in several eastern states.
