CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Whataburger Restaurants LP has named Preston Atkinson as president of the 700-restaurant chain.
 
The president's post has been vacant for nearly two years. Fomer president Tim Taft left the company in February 2005 to take to CEO spot at The Colony, Texas-based Pizza Inn Inc.
  
Atkinson will retain the title of chief operating officer, a post he has held at Whataburger since 2005. Atkinson joined the company as vice president of construction in 1998. Prior to that, he built restaurants for Whataburger as president and owner of Atkinson and Associates Builders.
