DETROIT — More than 100 Little Caesars Pizza Kits were loaded onto an aircraft on Jan. 3 for shipping to U.S. troops stationed in Taji, Iraq.
According to a news release, the kits will feed approximately 500 soldiers.
Little Caesars partnered with L.S.S. Consulting, a Detroit area-based global security consulting firm and DHL Global Forwarding, part of the logistics division of DHL, to coordinate the special shipment.
"We are proud to send the Pizza Kits to express our support to the men and women bravely serving our country overseas," said Joan Rivard, vice president of Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraising Program. "We hope the Pizza Kits will provide the troops with a little slice of home as we enter the New Year."
The Little Caesars Pizza Kits project required significant logistical planning and coordination with First Cavalry officials at Fort Hood, Texas, and at Taji to ensure their safe delivery.
L.S.S. Consulting generously covered the cost of shipping and a special, 42-cubic-foot refrigerated shipping container. Troops in Iraq have access to cooking appliances to prepare the pizzas.
"It sends a great message to the men and women who will be away from home this year that we support them," said Ned Timmons, president of L.S.S. Consulting.
Timmons and his wife Mary have a son stationed at Taji. Ranks of the First Cavalry also include soldiers from Michigan.
