CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Taco John's store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, has been linked to E. coli contamination.
The first illness was reported to the Black Hawk County Health Department Nov. 28. On Dec. 6, the health department contacted Taco John's and later that day, Taco John's replaced all food used in the restaurant. The health department allowed the store to reopen.
"Our hearts go out to those who have fallen ill in Iowa," said Taco John's president and chief executive officer, Paul Fisherkeller. "The public should know that the Black Hawk County Health Department found our franchisee's operation to be in full compliance with all health and safety practices. At this time, as we understand it, the Department has not confirmed the cause of illness for those who visited our franchisee and some have fallen ill who never visited there.
"Nonetheless, as a precaution, all food that was being used in the restaurant was taken out of production and replaced with new food. Nothing is more important to us than the health and satisfaction of our customers, which is why I thought we should respond at a corporate level."
