CHARLOTTE N.C. — Bojangles' Restaurants Inc. announced a development deal with the Mexicajun Investment Group to open 10 restaurants over the next five years in Mexico. The first Bojangles' is to open within the next three to five months in Puebla, southeast of Mexico City. Headed by Henry Gurganus and Tom Glennon, the group has also committed to opening Bojangles' across other cities such as Veracruz, Alcapoco and a non-exclusive entry into Mexico City, according to a news release.
"We are pleased to have the Mexicajun Investment Group join our growing franchise team," said Eric Newman, executive vice president. "International expansion is a natural addition to the domestic growth we are experiencing at Bojangles'. Latin America in general, and Mexico in particular, are natural markets for our concept, our menu and flavor profile."
Bojangles will offer essentially the same menu available in the U.S., but the franchise group plans to change its restaurant design to appeal to Mexican families. Those sites will use stucco and tile roofs and elements of Bojangles' red, yellow and orange colors, trade dress and design .
First franchised in 1978, Bojangles' now boasts more than 350 total locations with 229 franchised and 124 corporate.
