CHICAGO — Nutrition information will be available on packaging at 26 McDonald's restaurants in Torino, Italy, the QSR said Tuesday. The launch in the host city of the Winter Olympics is the first of what the company has said will be a global rollout of the updated packaging.
Nutrition information on packaging, which was announced by chief executive officer Jim Skinner in October 2005, is a first for the QSR industry. When implemented, the majority of McDonald's packaging will include nutrition information, with a few exceptions, according to a news release. For example, packaging used in short-term promotions, and wrappers and containers used for multiple products, such as beverage cups, will not feature product specific nutrition information. In these instances, customers will be directed to McDonald's websites or to in-restaurant materials for the nutrition information they need.
