CARPINTERIA, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- Carl's Jr. today announced that it was taking another step to further separate itself from the rest of the fast-food restaurant industry. The quick-service restaurant chain reported that it had begun making its top-selling line of Six Dollar Burgers™ with 100 percent Angus beef patties. None of the other leading quick-service restaurant chains are currently offering Angus beef on their menus(1). "The Six Dollar Burger was originally conceived and advertised as the first 'sit-down restaurant-quality burger available at a fast food restaurant' by virtue of its almost one-half pound, seasoned patty and higher-quality condiments and produce like sliced red onion and bread-and-butter pickles," said Andy Puzder, CEO and president of Carl's Jr. parent, CKE Restaurants. "However, since the product's introduction more than two years ago, many sit-down restaurants have begun using Angus beef in their burgers, so we felt it was the right time to follow suit and stay true to the original positioning of the burger." "Adding Angus beef as a key ingredient in The Six Dollar Burger Line also sets us even farther apart from the competition and reinforces our quality leadership position," Puzder added. "Angus beef not only provides superior taste, juiciness and consistency, but it helps maintain our commitment to providing the highest quality food in the QSR industry." The Six Dollar Burger was introduced in July 2001 and became one of the most successful new products in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. In 2002, Restaurant Business magazine awarded The Six Dollar Burger the coveted Silver Skillet Award for product innovation. And in 2004, consumers made the Low Carb Six Dollar Burger™ the best-selling burger in the line of six "restaurant quality" burgers at Carl's Jr. With the introduction of 100 percent Angus beef into its product line, Carl's Jr. hopes to continue leading the fast-food industry in high-quality food and service. The Six Dollar Burger Line starts selling at $3.99, though prices may vary. The Angus beef Six Dollar Burgers will begin selling in most restaurants on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 and in all restaurants within two weeks.
