KFC among sustainable practice winners

Summit Publishing released its winners of its second annual Greener Package Awards for packaging sustainability.
Members of the Greener Package Expert Network selected eight winners who demonstrated that sustainability can be found in a variety of technologies and materials, according to the Environmental Leader.
This year the firm received 98 entries, a 57 percent increase from last year.
Coca-Cola and Kentucky Fried Chicken were both named winners in the Food & Pharmaceutical Packaging category.
Vanguard Packaging was given the Beyond the Package Award and Innovator of the Year honors.
Coca-Cola won for its 30 percent plant-based PlantBottle, which is the first commodity resin partially derived from plants that is completely recyclable in community programs, like Coca-Cola’s “Give it Back” campaign.
KFC won for its use of sustainable sides container. The new polypropylene container and lid replaces the chain's former single-use expanded polystyrene version for side dishes.
