Going green is certainly in style, and the Subway restaurant chain proved it at the recent "Project Subway" fashion show in Chicago.
During the show, eight models showed off designs made from Subway's recycled packaging materials. Chicago-based designer Elsa Hiltner created each design with the same packaging used in Subway restaurants.
The fashion show was produced by In the Loop-Chicago, a special events company.
The outfits included a bodice created from a Subway lunch box package, with floral detail made from a Subway cookie bag. Half of each cookie bag and 10 percent of each lunch box is made from recycled materials.
The show's objective was to bring attention to Subway's ongoing efforts to be more sustainable.
Some examples of these efforts include the opening of eight certified eco-stores, with more planned. Also, all new and remodeled restaurants use low-flow faucets; napkins, towel and tissue products are made with 100 percent recyled fiber; and salad containers and lids are made from recycled bottles.
Subway also encourages its vendors to be more environmentally-friendly, presenting Sustainability Awards each year.
