Yum! Brands Foundation is adding to its World Hunger Relief effort by sponsoring The Muhammad Ali Center's 'Muhammad Ali Center Peace Gardens' to teach children how to start and manage a garden, nutrition and different cultures.

According to BusinessWire, Yum! Brands Foundation’s World Hunger Relief effort teaches children in underprivileged areas how to grow their own food with plants from different countries.

Yum! Brands Foundation will provide the necessary materials such as a free, downloadable teacher curriculum guides translated into six languages and $100,000 in grants for the building of gardens in underprivileged schools around the world throughout the next four years.

This garden project stems from the highly successful trial conducted by the Louisville, Ky.-based John F. Kennedy Montessori Elementary School. Students in grades pre-school through fifth from Asia, South America, Russia, Cuba and the U.S. learned how to start a garden with plants from different countries under the supervision of teachers. Nearly 600 students participated in all aspects of the garden including planting, nurturing, harvesting, cooking and donating food to the hungry.

"The Muhammad Ali Center's core mission is to make a positive difference in the world by fostering respect for humanity and inspiring personal growth," said Greg Roberts, president of the Muhammad Ali Center based in Louisville, Ky., where Yum! Brands' headquarters are located.

"The 'Muhammad Ali Center Peace Gardens' will help teach children how to grow food, feed themselves and others in need," said Jonathan Blum, chief public affairs officer, Yum! Brands, Inc.

Yum! Brands' World Hunger Relief is the world's largest private hunger relief effort and is in 110 countries. The effort launched in 2009.
