Burger King franchisee HMSHost Corporation has opened four new restaurants in service centers along Highways 400 and 401 in Ontario. The locations include Bainsville, Morrisburg, Tilbury North and Tilbury South service centers.
The busy 400-series highways see more than 500,000 travelers daily.
The service center locations are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified, meaning the buildings meet stringent energy-efficient guidelines.
Additionally, nine more units are scheduled for completion by 2013, which will bring the brand's count in Canada to more than 300 locations.
HMSHost has operated Burger King restaurants in some of Canada's busiest airports for the past 13 years.
The company partnered with Ontario-based Kilmer Van Nostrand Co. to create Host Kilmer Service Centers Inc., an alliance between travel dining/shopping and public infrastructure companies.
Their 5-year agreement includes an anticipated network of 23 LEED Silver-certified highway service centers, including 13 Burger King units.
