The National Restaurant Association has formed an official partnership with web-based nutrition analysis solutions provider FoodCALC, endorsing the company's recipe nutrition analysis tool, MenuCalc, among its preferred analysis providers.

"Restaurateurs have an increasing interest in obtaining accurate nutrition information of the dishes they serve, but the analysis process has presented challenges,” said David Gilbert, chief operator officer of the National Restaurant Association. “Using their web-based nutrition analysis platform, MenuCalc, FoodCALC provides a best in class online solution that allows restaurateurs access to nutrition analysis tools at anytime."

Designed specifically for restaurants and food professionals to meet their needs in calculating nutrition information, MenuCalc is widely used by both small independents to large multiunit restaurant groups. The platform utilizes a method known as database nutrition analysis, one of two approved methods by the FDA for obtaining nutrition analysis results. Database analysis allows users to use a database of previously analyzed ingredients to calculate nutrition results.

“This partnership strengthens the credibility of both organizations, boosting the confidence of association members looking to benefit from the results of nutrition analysis,” said FoodCALC brand coordinator, Lara Baldwin. “Restaurant operators looking to start the seemingly daunting process of nutrition analysis can take comfort in knowing that the National Restaurant Association has done its due diligence.”

San Francisco, Calif.-based FoodCalc also owns LabelCalc, which generates up-to-date FDA-compliant facts panels for food manufacturers. LabelCalc clients includes Unified Grocers, the producers and distributors of ready-to-eat packaged salads Fresh Express, snack manufacturer Energy Club and international airline caterer Gate Gourmet.

Multi-unit restaurants that have signed up for MenuCalc's nutrition analysis include Louisville, Ky.-based Texas Roadhouse; Steak 'n Shake; and San Francisco-based Specialty's Cafe and Bakery.
