KFC U.K. has received the Red Tractor certification, which ensures KFC's chicken products have been sourced under stringent safety, environmental and animal welfare standards.
According to Marketing Magazine, KFC is the first major quick-service chain to earn the accreditation.
Red Tractor Assurance is a non-profit organization backed by farmers, manufacturers, processors and packers, all of whom are independently inspected to ensure they meet standards.
According to the Red Tractor website, the standards have been refined throughout the years through consultations with experts from the food supply chain, scientists, academics and professionals.
To ensure the integrity of the standards are upheld by all Red Tractor farmers, food packers and manufacturers are independently inspected at least once a year. All of them must comply with all standards for the Red Tractor logo to appear on their products.
Products carrying the logo have met Red Tractor standards through all stages of production, processing and packing.
A Red Tractor logo will appear on KFC's U.K. website, and more promotional material about the certification is expected to appear in-store.
