At the Dublin Web Summit late last year, Irish utility Electric Ireland set up a Twitter powered pop-up Tweet cafe, allowing customers to tweet their orders and keep an eye on a digital signage display to keep track of their place in line.
Using social media and digital signage created "a virtual queue," according to psfk.com, meaning people didn't have to spend time waiting in a real line.
Meant as a promo for Electric Ireland's services, the pop-up cafe also offers interesting possibilities for creative uses of digital signage in real reastaurants, as a way to reduce perceived wait times and potential customer frustration during peak hours.
