White Castle is experimenting with wine sales at a Lafayette, Ind., restaurant, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Since December, the unit has been pairing wine with the chain's popular Sliders and other items. There are four varieties available, including Barefoot Cellars' Chardonnay, Merlot, Moscato and a "sweet red" blend. The 7-ounce bottles are $18.
The White Castle features table service, which is required by Indiana state law for alcohol sales. Beer is also sold at the restaurant.
White Castle-inspired cocktail
Dayton, Ohio-based Buckeye Vodka has unveiled cocktails inspired by three iconic Ohio-based food purveyors, including White Castle, which is headquartered in Columbus.
The Buckeye Bacon Slider includes 1.5 oz. bacon-infused Buckeye Vodka and 3 oz. seasoned tomato mix. The recipe is served on the rocks with a smoked seat salt rim, candied bacon strip and cheese cube, cocktail onion and pickle slice on a cocktail stick.
The company also came up with recipes for Cincinnati's Skyline Chili – the Buckeye 5-Way – and Toledo's Tony Packo's – the Buckeye Packo-Tini.
"We wanted to honor three incredibly successful Ohio-based food companies, and also have a little bit of fun," said Jim Finke, CEO of Crystal Spirits LLC, parent company of Buckeye Vodka. "We hope these Iconic Ohio drinks encourage people to explore new cocktail creations in their kitchens and bars at home."
The recipes were developed by Rachelle Chiarappa, Buckeye Vodka's mixologist.
