McDonald's is testing table service at some of its 1,200 units throughout the United Kingdom. According to the Daily Mail, servers have been hired as a way for McDonald's to better compete with pubs that have started to serve lower-priced menu items.
Table service is being tested during peak times. Just as any casual dining chain, the "McWaiters" take customers' orders from the table before bringing them their food and, ultimately, their bills.
Jill McDonald, the chain's UK CEO, said this initiative is a way to offer more convenience to consumers.
The UK system also continues to test in-store kiosks, where customers can order and pay using touchscreens, before collecting their food from another area.
Additionally, a McDonald's unit in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, features new décor, iPads, projectors displaying magic tricks to entertain children, private meeting rooms and more.
