Carl's Jr. has announced new additions to its Green Burrito menu of Mexican cuisine – the Charbroiled Chicken and Steak Torta Sandwiches.
The new Tortas feature a choice of charbroiled chicken or steak, guacamole, pinto beans, shredded cheese, hot sauce, tomato and shredded lettuce, served on a Mexican-style Telera roll. The Charbroiled Chicken and Steak Torta Sandwiches are available now at all dual-branded Carl's Jr./Green Burrito restaurants.
"With the introduction of the Charbroiled Chicken and Steak Tortas, we bring the same authentic menu items found in Mexican restaurants to our guests," said Brad Haley, chief marketing officer of parent company CKE Restaurants Inc. "The familiar flavors of marinated, charbroiled chicken and steak, beans and freshly-prepared guacamole taste even better on a classic Mexican-style Telera roll, and offers the convenience of a sandwich that's easy to eat on the go."
The Charbroiled Chicken Torta is available as an entrée for $3.29 and the Charbroiled Steak Torta is priced at $3.89. The new Tortas also are available as combos with chips or fries and soft drinks. Prices may vary by location.
The rollout follows the restaurant chain's unveiling of a more contemporary Green Burrito logo and redesigned menu boards earlier this year. The refreshed look is part of an overall strategy by CKE Restaurants to continue to increase the penetration of the dual-branded concept, currently approaching half of all domestic Carl's Jr. locations, and to further enhance guest satisfaction.
Carl's Jr. opened the first dual-branded Carl's Jr./Green Burrito restaurant in Carson, Calif., in 1994. The Green Burrito chain was subsequently acquired by CKE in 2001.
"Carl's Jr. founder Carl Karcher believed that adding Mexican favorites to Carl's Jr.'s established menu of premium-quality burgers would satisfy multiple cravings, and he was right," Haley added. "With more than 550 Green Burritos now serving authentic Mexican flavors within Carl's Jr. locations, dual-branding has been very successful for Carl's Jr. and the introduction of Charbroiled Chicken and Steak Tortas will help to continue that success well into the future."
