Auntie Anne's Inc. has awarded $40,000 in post-secondary scholarships to seven students in six states across the country.
Now in its seventh year, Auntie Anne's Scholarship Assistance Program is part of the company's objective to extend corporate philanthropy inward. The program is available to all employees, their dependents and grandchildren, to help provide post-secondary education opportunities and assist individuals in achieving their educational goals.
The recipients of Auntie Anne's 2012 scholarships, each receiving $5,000, are:
- Brent Cochran from Terre Haute, Ind., shift supervisor at Auntie Anne's Honey Creek Mall;
- Abigail Mercadante of Wilkes Barre, Pa., crew member at Auntie Anne's Wyoming Valley Mall;
- Annatasia Miller of Knoxville, Tenn., crew member at Auntie Anne's West Town Mall;
- Erikson Ramos of Boston, whose mother works at Auntie Anne's South Station; and
- Amber Wenz and Ashley Wenz, both of Marietta, Pa., whose stepmother works at Auntie Anne's Corporate Support Center.
Devon King was the sole $10,000 recipient due to her undertaking of a major directly related to foodservice. King, from Auburn, Wash., is a crew member at Auntie Anne's SuperMall of The Great Northwest and both Auntie Anne's Westfield Southcenter Mall locations.
Auntie Anne's annually grants up to seven post-secondary scholarships based on the applicant's character, achievements and commitment to achieving high personal and academic standards. In addition, applicants must have completed the first semester of their senior year of high school or obtained their G.E.D. equivalency and must have gained acceptance to or be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, vocational or technical school, culinary institution, or other approved place of higher learning.
