Officials in Cresskill, N.J., a town of about 8,500 people located just north of New York City, are mulling a ban on drive-thrus.
According to NorthJersey.com, the proposal stems from traffic congestion from existing drive-thru establishments, including a pharmacy, a Dunkin' Donuts unit and several banks.
Mayor Ben Romeo said a Dunkin' Donuts often has a long line of cars that affects traffic in the area and any future drive-thru additions would compound the issue.
An attorney for the town said an ordinance will be written up soon and then considered by city council.
Councilman John Brennan said chain restaurants with drive-thrus can add not only more traffic but also litter. He said officials hope to "keep what has been built and not expand any further."
