In its six-week-long fundraiser for the Share Our Strength No Kid Hungry campaign, Arby's restaurants raised a system record of $2.5 million.

From Aug. 20 through Sept. 30, Arby's restaurants collected money for the Arby's Foundation and its mission to end childhood hunger through its partnership with the campaign. Customers who donated $1 received a pin-up pledge to sign and hang on the walls of the restaurant to show their support.

"We're extremely proud of the extraordinary efforts of our franchisees, company-owned restaurants and employees, who went the extra mile," said Hala Moddelmog, president, Arby's Restaurant Group Inc. "Childhood hunger is a monumental problem in this country, and we've pledged as a brand to stand up and take action to ensure that no child grows up hungry."

During this year's in-store fundraiser, Arby's franchisee Carisch Inc. raised the most amount of money, bringing in more than $100,000. Carisch owns and operates 68 Arby's restaurants in Florida, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota and Wisconsin. The Jasper, Ala., Arby's raised the most money for an individual restaurant, with more than $13,000.

Arby's has been actively involved with the No Kid Hungry campaign since 2011. From May through August of this year, the Arby's Foundation embarked upon an 8,000 mile, 15-city Hungry For Happiness tour to raise awareness about childhood hunger and connect kids to one million more meals during the vulnerable summer months.

Arby's is the largest quick service restaurant chain to partner in a nationwide effort with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, and contributed more than $2.2 million to its mission in 2011.

The restaurant industry as a whole raised more than $5 million to support the campaign. In addition to Arby's, chains such as Pizza Fusion, Bruegger's Bagels, Denny's, Romano's Macaroni Grill, Joe's Crab Shack and others participated.
