Dunkin' Donuts' request to trademark the phrase "Best Coffee in America" has been denied by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. According to Drinks Business Review, the ruling is tentative; however the USPTO said the phrase is "merely laudatory and descriptive."

Dunkin' Donuts said it is reviewing the filing.

Sam Adams' beer's parent company – The Boston Beer Company – set the precedent for this ruling when it applied for "The Best Beer in America" trademark and was denied.
