McDonald's is planning a national rollout of its McDelivery home delivery service in the Japanese market. According to Burger Business, the chain will also expand its McCafé lineup in that country.
Consumer convenience initiatives — including extended hours and delivery — have been a focus at McDonald's in its Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa division all year as a response to recent sliding comp sales.
Burger Business reports that McDelivery has been in test for the past year and has experienced strong results. The national deployment is expected in 2013.
Although no plans are in place for this service to come to the U.S., McDonald's rival Burger King has expanded its delivery business from Washington, D.C., to Texas, New York City and Miami.
Subway is also testing delivery in California.
