McDonald's board of directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of 77 cents per share of common stock payable on March 15 to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 1.

After September's declared dividend, also of 77 cents, CEO Don Thompson said McDonald's 2012 expected total cash return to shareholders to at least $5.5 billion through both dividends and share repurchases.

The 77-cent amount represents a 10-percent increase over the company's dividend in Q3 2012.
