To appeal to the masses, McDonald's restaurants in Italy now feature pasta. According to NBC News, the company teamed up with Barilla for the new item — a pasta salad with tuna, tomatoes, peppers, capers and olives.
According to analysts, serving a cold pasta dish works better operationally than a hot pasta.
McDonald's Italy CEO Roberto Masi said the new item was launched in response to "the taste of the Italians."
McDonald's also serves pasta — McSpaghetti — in the Philippines.
CEO Don Thompson has repeatedly said the chain is testing a number of new products, some of which have been adapted directly from other areas of the world. More than once, he's touched on the idea of "innovating, sharing and scaling" products from other global markets.
