Technomic Vice President David Henkes spoke to Bloomberg Tuesday about McDonald's impending chicken wings launch, set for September.
He said the move is necessary for the chain, as sales numbers have been flat to down the past three quarters.
"They need something to drive consumer interest and I think wings are just the thing to do it," Henkes said. He added that the item — which will be available in 3-, 5- and 10-piece boxes — is priced to go, which bodes well for football fans.
Shortage on the horizon?
Meanwhile, Sanderson Farms Inc. chairman and CEO Joe F. Sanderson Jr. told Bloomberg that McDonald's wing launch will "likely" affect chicken wing supply.
Because of football season, demand usually rises starting in September.
