For the first time, White Castle is expanding Valentine's Day promotion to include a fundraiser for the American Red Cross in support of its disaster relief efforts. Starting today, guests can donate $1, $3 and $5 at more than 400 restaurants.
"Our mission is to not only provide memorable moments to our Cravers, but to make a difference in the communities where we live and work." Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president, said in a company news release. "Our loyal Cravers actively support worthy causes through their participation in our Castle Shares initiatives at White Castle. We always have a lot of fun on Valentine's Day at White Castle, and this year while having fun we are supporting a great cause in the American Red Cross."
Customers who donate can show their support by placing paper Red Crosses on the wall at their local White Castle. The promotion runs through Feb. 13. On Feb. 14, White Castle will present a check to American Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern, who will be dining at a White Castle in New York City for Valentine's Day.
McGovern and her husband, Don, had their first date more than 30 years ago at a White Castle in the Bronx.
The McGoverns will enjoy Valentine's Day dinner at 4 p.m., followed by the announcement of two special White Castle honors. Richardson will then present a check to McGovern for the funds raised by Cravers in support of Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
10 weddings on tap
Additionally, this Valentine's Day, 10 couples will experience a White Castle wedding. Couples around the country competed in regional radio contests for the chance to say, "I do" at a White Castle restaurant in their town. Radio listeners entered the contest by submitting photos, their love stories and why they would like to be married at White Castle.
"We hope the winning Cravers' love for each other, and for White Castle, burns stronger than ever this Valentine's Day," said Lisa Ingram, White Castle president and COO. "We're happy to be fulfilling White Castle's mission of creating memorable moments every day — a White Castle wedding could not be more fitting."
The 10 couples will walk down the aisle on Feb. 14 in the following regions: Chicago; Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit; Indianapolis; Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.; New Jersey; New York and St. Louis.
Each White Castle location will provide food and beverages for the wedding party and all radio stations will provide a complete prize package including an ordained minister to perform each ceremony.
