Several quick-service chains are getting ready for the summer season with a new product launches that leverage ongoing trends.

Taco John's has launched a Chicken Bacon Club Burrito that ties into the portability trend by essentially wrapping a chicken salad in a tortilla shell under the tagline, "Hello, salad. Goodbye, fork." The new burrito features grilled chicken chunks, bacon bits, shredded cheese, lettuce and ranch dressing.

Taco John's is offering a free any-size order of Potato Oles with the purchase of the burrito to its fan club, Taco John's Maniacs. Coupons are available via e-mail as well as Facebook and Twitter. The offer is available until July 11.

Burgerville's returns seasonal, gourmet favorite

Northwest-based chain Burgerville continues to leverage the trend of fresh, seasonal, local produce more often seen in casual and fine dining. Its latest offering is the return of its Golden Fried Asparagus Spears, one of last year's most popular seasonal, gourmet menu offerings. This seasonal menu offering will be available now through June 7.
Burgerville's Golden Fried Asparagus Spears are lightly dusted with Shepherd's Grain flour, produced by an alliance of Eastern Oregon family farms dedicated to sustainable agriculture practice. The spears are then fried to a light, crispy golden brown and served with made-in-house garlic aioli dipping sauce. Burgerville's asparagus comes from Snow & Sons Produce Co., located in Outlook, Wash.
Golden Fried Asparagus Spears are available for $2.49 for a small, five-piece order, and $3.99 for a regular, 10-piece order.   Whataburger returns BBQ favorite

Whataburger is tapping into National Barbecue Month, by bringing back its popular limited-time Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich. The sandwich, first introduced in February 2005 and available through June 21, features Whataburger's sweet and tangy Honey BBQ sauce, three real chicken breast tenderloins and two slices of Monterey Jack cheese. This time around, customers can choose to have the sandwich on a toasted bun or Texas Toast.

"We get e-mails year round from customers asking us when they can get the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip sandwich again — it's that popular," said Rich Scheffler, Whataburger Restaurants LP group director of marketing, in a news release. "We always look forward to bringing back the favorites, and we think people will enjoy having the option to choose between a bun and Texas Toast."

The Honey BBQ Chicken Strip sandwich is available alone or in a combo meal with a drink and french fries. Customers can substitute fries for Whataburger's new side salad for an additional 25 cents. The new salad is about half the size of Whataburger's current garden salad and is a mix of romaine and iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes and carrots.
