Jack in the Box has added a new offering to its entree salad lineup, the Grilled Chicken Salad. The Grilled Chicken Salad is the lightest of the chain's three entree salads at 251 calories and 9 grams of fat. The new salad features a blend of fresh romaine, iceberg and spring mix lettuce topped with strips of grilled chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion and shredded carrots, served with seasoned croutons and low-fat balsamic dressing on the side.
The Grilled Chicken Salad is available for the suggested price of $4.99 at all participating Jack in the Box restaurants.
The new salad follows the better-for-you trend, led this year by Taco Bell and its Drive-Thru Diet promotion. Fellow Western chain and Jack in the Box rival Carl's Jr. also launched new grilled chicken entree salads in late December with a successful campaign featuring reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
For Jack in the Box, the Grilled Chicken Salad is the first of its entree salads to meet the standards of HealthyDiningFinder.com, offering about half the fat of the chain's other entree salads. The Chicken Club Salad, served with Bacon Ranch dressing, has 350 calories with 18 grams of fat when topped with grilled chicken strips and 510 calories and 27 grams of fat when topped with crispy chicken strips. The Southwest Chicken Salad has 341 calories and 13 grams of fat for the grilled chicken option and 501 calories and 22 grams of fat for the crispy chicken option.
"Guests seeking healthier menu alternatives will enjoy our new Grilled Chicken Salad," said Tammy Bailey, division vice president of menu marketing and promotions, for Jack in the Box Inc. "It has a wide variety of tasty ingredients and can be enjoyed as a balanced meal. It is filling, yet light."
The new entree salad introduction follows last month's launch of the chain's new grilled sandwiches, which feature sliced meat and cheese between grilled artisan bread.
