McDonald's has filed a challenge against a Chicago teenager in regard to her use of the Mc prefix in her annual charity concert, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Lauren McClusky has coordinated McFest, playing off the prefix in her last name, since 2007 as a benefit for the Chicago chapter of Special Olympics. McDonald's filed suit after McClusky tried to trademark the name of the event.
McDonald's has said it is trying to end the matter amicably.
McDonald's resolved two lawsuits last year over trademark infringement, including one in which it was the defendant. In September, McDonald's lost a legal battle with a restaurant in Malaysia named "McCurry." In November, the chain settled a dispute with an Eden Prairie, Minn., restaurant over the chain's use of the restaurant's "Who's Your Patty?" slogan.
