More quick-service restaurants are taking part in relief efforts for victims of last week's devastating earthquake in Haiti. On Friday, McDonald's Corp. and Yum! Brands both announced $500,000 donations to the relief effort in statements, with McDonald's Latin America franchisee pledging to match the corporation's efforts by contributing 50 cents from every Big Mac and Big Mac Extra Value Meal sold through Jan. 22.

Other brands have also announced their efforts, including:

Burger King's Have It Your Way Foundation, the charitable arm of Burger King Corp. has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts in Haiti.

"The situation in Haiti is devastating, and our hearts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by this tragedy," said Anne Chwat, president, Have It Your Way Foundation, in a news release. "Although we don't operate Burger King restaurants in Haiti, BKC's global headquarters is based in Miami, which is home to one of the largest Haitian communities outside of the island. The people of Haiti are suffering, and many of our employees, franchisees, guests and their families have also been significantly impacted. As such, we are committed to supporting the relief efforts in the country."

In addition, the company is collecting essential supplies from employees and distributing them in coordination with the University of Miami's medical teams. BKC employees also are rallying to volunteer with local community organizations and assist with relief efforts.

Tim Hortons Restaurants across North America is also accepting donations for Haitian earthquake relief.

Tim Hortons has announced that it will support UNICEF's (United Nations Children's Fund) relief efforts for children and families devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.

Starting Jan. 18, the familiar Tim Horton Children's Foundation coin boxes found on every Tim Hortons counter and in every drive-thru in more than 3,500 stores across Canada and the United States will be designated to UNICEF's Haitian Earthquake relief efforts.

An additional donation of $100,000 (Canadian dollars) also is being made to UNICEF on behalf of Tim Hortons store owners and corporate offices.

"The magnitude of this disaster is exacerbated by the lack of resources and poverty in Haiti," said Don Schroeder, president & CEO, Tim Hortons Inc., in a news release. "Our store owners and corporate staff immediately wanted to help. Our hearts go out to our many staff and customers, particularly in Quebec, who have family and friends in Haiti. The coin box collection allows people to make even the smallest contribution, because as we know, every penny adds up."

Encino, Calif.-based Menchie's self-serve frozen yogurt franchise contributed 5 percent of its end-of-day systemwide sales on Friday to support the American Red Cross Haiti relief fund.

All Menchie's 25 locations also displayed a relief collection box encouraging customers to donate clothing, blankets, canned goods and money that will be presented to local American Red Cross affiliates.

U.S. Foodservice, the nation's premier food distributor, also contributed to relief efforts, donating $50,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.

"Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this disaster," said Bob Aiken, chief executive, U.S. Foodservice, in a news release. "U.S. Foodservice and its employees have a long history of providing food and support to the victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters in the United States. However, without a base of operations in the Caribbean, the company has decided to answer the Red Cross's call for cash to fund these critical efforts."
