Dunkin' Donuts adds biscuits as oven-toasted bread option

Dunkin' Donuts has added buttermilk biscuits to its oven-toasted menu as another option for customers to choose for their favorite Dunkin' Donuts breakfast sandwich.

The new Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwich, featuring scrambled eggs, American cheese and breakfast sausage between an oven-toasted biscuit, is now available at participating Dunkin' Donuts shops nationwide for the suggested price of $2.99. In select markets, a Sausage Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich will be available for 99 cents with the purchase of any beverage at participating shops through Oct. 6.

According to The NPD Group/CREST, biscuits are the number one carrier of quick-service restaurant breakfast sandwiches across the country, with servings volume up 6 percent for year ending June 2009.

Biscuit breakfast sandwiches are the latest addition to Dunkin' Donuts' all-day oven-toasted menu. Dunkin' Donuts recently introduced the Chicken Parmesan Flatbread Sandwich, which features lightly breaded, seasoned chicken topped with melted provolone cheese and a flavorful marinara sauce served in a crispy flatbread. Dunkin' Donuts' unique cooking ovens use patented technologies to deliver the "oven-toasted" result.

Fundraiser results

In unrelated news, Dunkin' Donuts also announced that its store owners, employees, suppliers and loyal customers in New England raised more than $715,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund.

The proceeds were generated from the 12th Annual Dunkin' Donuts George Mandell Memorial Golf Tournament and Auction held Aug. 10. The event, organized by Dunkin' Donuts Northeast Distribution Center (NEDCP) and held at The International Golf Club in Bolton, Mass., has historically been one of the Jimmy Fund's highest-grossing fund-raising tournaments nationwide.

Through 2008, Dunkin' Donuts franchisees and vendors in the Northeast donated more than $7.3 million to specifically fund the work of the "Rising Stars" physicians at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The $715,000 donated in 2009 and all fund-raising activities moving forward will now benefit "The Dunkin' Donuts 'Right Cures Rid Cancer' Research Fund." The new program supports the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Dana Farber, where doctors lead research and testing to better understand and treat the disease based upon each individual's cancer.

This year, canister contributions made by consumers at participating Dunkin' Donuts shops totaled more than $16,000 and were included in the total donation from the Dunkin' Donuts Community Foundation.
