KFC has announced the winners of its Chari-T's Contest, in which consumers submitted their own designs for the T-shirts that benefit the chain's charitable Colonel's Scholars program. Colonel's Scholars provides students nationwide with college scholarships.

KFC selected the top 12 submissions and allowed consumers to vote for the top three designs, which will be sold on KFC.com and in the designer's hometowns.

The winners include:
  • Anne Moore, Commerce Town, Mich.
  • Brian Harkless, Fort Worth, Texas
  • Stephen Glenn McClutchen, Sandy, Utah
With nearly 1,800 votes, Moore's "KFC Key Words" design was crowned the Grand Prize winner, followed by Harkless' "Stand With The Colonel" design and finally McClutchen's "Which Came First" design. All three top designers will receive Kentucky Grilled Chicken for a year in the form of KFC gift checks. For receiving the most votes, Moore also will win $3,000 to continue her fashion career.

"I chose to participate in the KFC Chari-T's Contest because it was benefitting a great cause, the Colonel's Scholars program," Moore said. "In my design, I tried to incorporate the familiar words and phrases associated with KFC through the years to evoke images of good food and great memories with family and friends."

Now through Sept. 14, the winning designs will be available on KFC.com for $15, with net proceeds benefitting KFC Colonel's Scholars.

Now in its fourth year, the KFC Colonel's Scholars' mission is to empower students to improve their lives with scholarship resources. Each year, a group of 50 or more students are eligible to receive up to $20,000 over four years to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited public university within their home state. In 2009, 75 students received scholarships from KFC Colonel's Scholars. The program has awarded more than $5 million in scholarships since its inception.
