MIAMI — Burger King Corp. is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami to make a difference in the lives of local community members, the company has announced.
BKC will sponsor two Habitat for Humanity homes, one in Liberty City and one in Overtown. The sponsorship will make home ownership a reality for two local families.
On July 15, Anne Chwat, executive vice president and general counsel, and Julio Ramirez, executive vice president, global operations for Burger King Corp., will present Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami with a $75,000 contribution at a commemoration event for the first home. Habitat for Humanity uses donations toward costs associated with building homes, such as purchasing land and building materials.
In addition, a group of Burger King Corp. employee volunteers will kick-off the community-outreach effort by working on the construction of the first home. Approximately 250 Burger King Corp. employees are expected to volunteer over the course of six months to help build both homes.
Since its founding in 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami has built more than 700 homes in low-income neighborhoods of Miami, including Liberty City, Overtown and Little Haiti.
