LAKE FOREST, Calif. — Recently, Del Taco restaurants in Utah raised funds for the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust and presented the trust with a check for $15,000. The donation will support youth camps and other kids activities for children of Utah National Guard members.

The fundraiser invited customers to make $1 donations at 18 of the company's restaurants and was the largest amount ever collected for a local charity by Utah Del, the franchisee for Del Taco in the state.

Paul Hitzelberger heads Utah Del, which has connecting with the community as one of its key strategies.

The Utah National Guard Charitable Trust assists Utah military families with medical, home or property emergencies, lost wages, travel expenses of wounded soldiers' families and other unexpected financial needs that arise during deployment of their service member. Since its creation in 2005, the trust has disbursed about $400,000 among hundreds of families.

Favorite fast food burger in L.A.

Readers of OC Register have voted Del Taco's Double Del Cheeseburger as the Finest Fast Food Burger in Orange County in voting inspired by National Burger Month.

"We know there are a lot of great burgers out there, and we're honored to have the Double Del recognized. This is especially sweet as it comes from fast food consumers," said Paul Murphy, CEO of Del Taco. "Our Double Del Cheeseburger is another way Del Taco boldly delivers great taste and quality for our customers."

Del Taco has combined burgers, fries and shakes with its varied Mexican menu since the chain was founded in 1961. The Double Del Cheeseburger is made with two fresh, never frozen beef patties, two slices of cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, onions and secret sauce on a sesame seed bun. The Double Del debuted in the 1990s and has since developed a loyal following of raving fans.

In 2007, bloggers ranked Del Taco as one of the Top 5 burger joints in Los Angeles.
