The Charleson (W.Va.) Gazette: After rejecting menu labeling legislation on Monday, the West Virginia Senate advanced a revised version of the bill that now would require national and regional fast-food and chain restaurants with locations in at least 14 other states to post calorie counts for all menu items. A former state senator who operates two regional restaurant chains staunchly opposed the original bill that would have required menu labeling for restaurant chains with 15 or more locations.
The bill next goes to the House, where it is expected to face another challenge.
UPDATE: On Thursday, the West Virginia House Health and Human Resources Committee removed the controversial Senate amendment. The committee amendment restored the original standard, applying the requirement to all chain restaurants with 15 or more locations nationwide. The bill goes to the House Government Organization Committee, where the House's version of menu labeling died earlier this session.
