FOX 9 (Minneapolis): According to a recent study by the University of Minnesota, teens are eating more fast food this decade than they did in the 1990s. The study also highlighted increases in the amount of fast food teenagers ate as they moved from middle school to high school, and in adolescent boys as they moved from high school into young adulthood.

The study's findings include:
  • High school girls' consumption of fast food in 2004 was up 42 percent compared to 27 percent in 1999.
  • The percentage of teenagers eating fast food three or more times a week nearly doubled as the teens moved from middle school to high school.
  • Fast food intake in both groups increased as they moved into young adulthood.
  • Being on a sports team was associated with large increases in the amount of fast food high school boys ate.
