SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Greenopia, an online directory for green, sustainable and socially conscious, daily purchase decisions, has released its 'green' industry ratings for limited service restaurants, the company has announced.
Greenopia has rated the restaurants using its 4-Leaf rating system to disclose the environmental impact and healthy dining characteristics of 23 of America's most popular fast casual and quick-service restaurant chains.
The most eco-friendly limited service eateries in America are fast casuals Le Pain Quotidien and Pizza Fusion, the only chains to receive Greenopia's 4-Leaf rating. QSRs Burgerville and EVOS received three Greenopia Leafs while McDonald's and Subway each received one.
"McDonald's seems to be making a dedicated effort," said Doug Mazeffa, director of research for Greenopia. "They are light-green in many respects, but still need to do more to be truly green."
The ratings are available for free on Greenopia's Web site and are based on an independent study conducted by Greenopia's research staff using an extended list of test criteria including green building design, supply chain management, and products served, among others.
