Nothing is more top of mind right now for those of us in the restaurant industry than the state of the economy.

Is the recession really over?

Do consumers plan to increase their appetites for dining out?

In a research report just released by Market Force, it appears that we can all exhale a bit. When asked about their plans for the coming months, 1 in 4 consumers reported that they thought they’d be eating out more than in prior months. Just 8% said that they think they’re going to be eating out less. Even more striking is that those numbers were more than reversed six months ago. In December of 2009 when asked the same question, more than half — 52% — predicted that they’d eat out less over the winter months and a paltry 5% thought they’d increase spending.

Check out the findings just released:

Q3 2010 Q1 2010
  1. More than in the past 3 months: 25%
  2. About the same as the past 3 months: 67%
  3. Less than the past 3 months: 8%
  1. More than in the past 3 months: 5%
  2. About the same as the past 3 months: 44%
  3. Less than the past 3 months: 52%
