Carl's Jr. has opened in Abbotsford, British Columbia, under the direction of the franchisee FYP Investments Inc. The new unit is the seventh Carl's Jr. location to open in British Columbia and the eighth in Canada and is part of a larger plan to expand the chain across the country, according to a company press release.
"Over the past three years, CKE's system-wide international restaurant count increased by 53 percent," said Ned Lyerly, executive vice president of international for CKE Restaurants Holdings , the parent company of Carl's Jr. "With a total of eight franchise entities developing restaurants in Canada, the market will be a key contributor to the future growth of our international system. In the 2014 Index of Economic Freedom, Canada recently ranked as the sixth most economically free nation in the world (out of 178) and was one of only five countries to achieve the Index's 'economically free' designation. We see Canada as a market with huge growth potential for Carl's Jr."
The Abbotsford restaurant, at 30770 Fraser Highway, Unit 5, is the third Carl's Jr. franchise location in the greater Vancouver area operated by FYP, which plans 25 additional stores over the next five years in Chilliwack, Vancouver, Langley and Surrey, according to the release. Operated by local businessman Billy Newell and his partners Chui Gracia, Ron Santolaya and Hernan Martinez, the FYP team sees tremendous opportunity for Carl's Jr. across Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and beyond.
FYP is one of eight franchisees developing the Carl's Jr. brand in Canada.
