Checkers continues to focus on retail, non-traditional locations

Feb. 25, 2010
Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. continues to advance its growth of end-cap and in-line designs with the announcement of two new store openings in Atlanta.

The company's newest non-drive-thru locations include a store in the Fairlie-Poplar District. The second location is in the food court of the Peachtree Center.

"This is our ninth Checkers franchise in Atlanta and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our loyal guests," said Checkers franchisee Aziz Hashim, CEO of National Restaurant Development Inc. and owner of the Fairlie-Poplar location. "We will continue to invest in our city and enjoy hiring from and becoming a part of the communities in which we operate."

Checkers franchisee Ali Parsa, owner of the Peachtree Center location, also owns one other Checkers restaurant and has more than 30 years of experience in the food industry.

Checkers' growth plan

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants has more than 820 locations open across the United States and is seeking to add several new development agreements in key markets such as Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, South Florida and Orlando.

In addition to developing in end-cap and in-line locations, Checkers' recent success also can be attributed to the company's expansion into non-traditional locations such as airports, universities and turnpike plazas. The goal is to provide new and existing franchisees with a greater range of development options, according to a recent announcement.

To fuel this growth for 2010, Checkers is actively seeking franchise candidates who possess strong financial backgrounds, a passion for their communities and the willingness to maximize their territory's sales through development agreements. Single restaurant development opportunities also exist in select markets as well as conversions into single and double drive-thru locations.

"Both non-traditional and conventional restaurant development are key components for Checkers to sustain the growth we've recently experienced, and we're confident our concept and product offering will continue to be attractive," said Lynette McKee, chief development officer of Checkers Drive-In Restaurants. "Our extensive training, operational support, national marketing and supply chain benefits are just some of the reasons why restaurant owners such as Aziz Hashim and Ali Parsa can focus on growing their business and the Checkers' brand."
