The Dairy Queen system announced it has recently re-entered Taiwan, and also plans to open the first DQ locations in Vietnam and Guyana during 2014, which will bring the number of countries outside the U.S. where Dairy Queen has a presence to 24.

According to a news release, Jolly Brands Inc. opened a Dairy Queen location in the Tianmu neighborhood of Taipei City, Taiwan, on Dec. 26, 2013. It plans to open 45 treat stores throughout the country within the next five years.

In Vietnam, the Dairy Queen system has signed a multi-unit deal with QSR Vietnam Trading One Member Company Limited. The franchisee plans to open the first DQ Treat store in Ho Chi Minh City in January 2014. Within five years, it plans to open 60 additional DQ Treat stores throughout the country.

The largest quick-service restaurant operator in Guyana, Camex Restaurants Inc. has signed an agreement for multi-unit development rights to build DQ Grill and Chill restaurants and DQ Treat stores in Guyana. Two locations are expected to open in first quarter 2014 as part of the six DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and six DQ Treat stores scheduled to open throughout the next five years.

"We are very happy with the success of our global expansion particularly when re-entering Taiwan and opening in brand new markets like Vietnam and Guyana," said Jean Champagne, COO International Groups of International Dairy Queen. "We certainly look forward to delivering the Dairy Queen experience and innovative menu items to our fans in those countries as we continue to expand our global presence."
