H.J. Heinz Company's new Dip & Squeeze Ketchup packet, that allows for both dipping and squeezing and holds three times as much as the traditional Heinz ketchup packet, has been honored with two leading industry awards for innovation.
The Dip & Squeeze earned a Silver Award in Innovation from the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. Now in its 23rd year, the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation is the industry's longest-running, global, independently judged celebration of innovation and collaboration throughout the value chain. Each year, a panel awards recipients in innovation, sustainability and cost/waste reduction categories.
"The Packaging Awards program is an opportunity to celebrate how collaborating throughout the value chain can bring cost-effective innovation to the market to help solve the big issues," said Shanna Moore, global director sustainable packaging, DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers. "The Heinz Dip & Squeeze Ketchup package captures the spirit of innovation to resolve customer challenges."
The Dip & Squeeze Ketchup also recently received recognition from the National Restaurant Association during its inaugural Food & Beverage Product Innovations Awards.
The product, touted for helping drive customer satisfaction and profitability for restaurant and foodservice operators nationwide, was showcased in the Food & Beverage Product Innovations Gallery at the 2011 NRA, Hotel-Motel Show at Chicago's McCormick Place May 21-24.
The Dip & Squeeze marks the most significant change for the ketchup packet in more than 42 years, according to Michael Okorafor, vice president of Heinz Packaging research and development.
From initial concept design to final implementation, Heinz collaborated with Multivac to launch the Dip & Squeeze last year.
Chick-fil-A was the first QSR to offer the Dip & Squeeze packaging, rolling it out in early March.
