In-N-Out petitioned to offer veggie burger

Aug. 31, 2012

Following a scandal involving animal welfare violations at a California slaughterhouse, Change.org has created a petition lobbying In-N-Out Burger to offer a veggie burger.

An undercover video showed employees at the Central Valley Meat Co. beating, kicking, shooting and shocking cows en route to their slaughter. Shortly after the video surfaced, In-N-Out Burger was one of the chains that suspended purchases from the facility.

The petition effort is being led by vegan Ari Solomon, who wrote: "Seems like a perfect time for In-N-Out to take advantage of the spotlight and add a cow-friendly veggie burger!"

Thus far, more than 2,300 signatures have been collection on the petition, which reads:

"Greetings,

I just signed the following petition addressed to: In-N-Out Burger.

Offer a veggie burger!

Saw on ABC World News Tonight that one of the beef suppliers In-N-Out was buying from was shut down because they were violating animal cruelty laws and treating the cows horrendously. In-N-Out did the right thing and said they would no longer buy from this supplier, but it's the 21st century and I think it's high time they offer a veggie burger option for customers who don't want to eat animals at all. A veggie burger is also a healthier option and one that does less damage to the environment."
