Jack in the Box restaurants has launched its latest sandwich with a limited-time only value promotion. The Really Big Chicken Sandwich, which features two breaded chicken patties, lettuce, tomato, bacon, Swiss-style cheese and mayo-onion sauce served on a jumbo bakery bun, is featured in a $3.99 combo meal offer.

The Really Big Chicken Sandwich combo meal includes the new sandwich, small drink and small order of seasoned curly fries.

"Even though the economy may be beginning to show signs of recovery, consumers are still looking for deals," said Tammy Bailey, division vice president of menu marketing and promotions for Jack in the Box Inc. in a news release. "At just $3.99, our new Really Big Chicken Sandwich Combo is a filling meal and a great value."

Jack in the Box continues to be challenged by high unemployment in its core California market, reporting a same-store sales decline of 8.6 percent in its recent quarterly earnings. The company is relying on combo meals to drive customer traffic without eroding restaurant margins like value menu promos have. Jack in the Box CEO Linda Lang said on that earnings call that bundled meals are providing good results in terms of the mix and are "margin-friendly because we've added in the side items which have the higher margin."
